Affordable Movie Makeup Must-Haves

During the lockdown in 2020 I decided that face painting was going to be my new hobby (we all needed something to get us by). Since then, it has turned into a huge passion of mine and over the years I’ve actually impressed myself with the results, not to toot my own horn or anything. Although it definitely is a bit of a random skill to have, it has come in handy for our Screaming Unicorn antics and we’ve managed to create some weird and freaky characters for our short horror films!

In this post, I’m going to recommend some affordable and user friendly makeup products that I think would come in handy for anyone who would maybe like some practical effects in their own movie - or even if you just want to have some fun in your own time!

Snazaroo - Clown White Paint

This is my go-to product for almost every makeup look that needs a white/pale complexion. The paint is a creamy water-based product and doesn’t have to be activated with water so it’s super easy to apply! It also washes off quickly with soap and water! You can buy this from the Snazaroo website or on amazon! I used this product on Amy to make her all scary for The Last Page!

Mehron - Rigid Collodion

Rigid Collodion sounds scary and complicated, but this is one of my favourite products to use because it is so simple and effective! Basically, it’s a clear liquid that is applied to the skin and when it dries it puckers the skin leaving behind a scar effect! This can be used to create both fresh or older scars but you will have to play around with different colours to apply underneath the Rigid Collodion - it just depends on the result you want! The product comes with a small applicator brush and can be removed with Mehron’s Spirit Gum Remover!

GO HO - Stage Blood

I always find it difficult to pick a fake blood product to use because there are literally so many to choose from! But one day I decided to try out the Go Ho Stage Blood I found on Amazon and I don’t think I’ll use anything different any time soon! It does what it says on the pack! It is safe to put in your mouth and doesn’t stain your skin! It WILL stain your clothes however so be careful! A little goes a long way too so even though the product comes in a small package it will last you a while!

Eye Contact Lenses

I also love to use eye contact lenses at every chance I get and I am affiliated with some really great companies! If you ever need some freaky eye effects feel free to use these links to get a discount! (Is this a bit of cheeky promo? Maybe!)

Well I hope this post was helpful and steered you in the right direction if you’re ever looking for products to spice up your movie! I’ve had such a great time learning and growing as a self-taught makeup artist so I would definitely recommend that you give it a try! What have you got to lose?! Thanks for reading!
