During the lockdown in 2020 I decided that face painting was going to be my new hobby (we all needed something to get us by). Since then, it has turned into a huge passion of mine and over the years I’ve actually impressed myself with the results, not to toot my own horn or anything. Although it definitely is a bit of a random skill to have, it has come in handy for our Screaming Unicorn antics and we’ve managed to create some weird and freaky characters for our short horror films!
In this post, I’m going to recommend some affordable and user friendly makeup products that I think would come in handy for anyone who would maybe like some practical effects in their own movie - or even if you just want to have some fun in your own time!
Snazaroo - Clown White Paint

This is my go-to product for almost every makeup look that needs a white/pale complexion. The paint is a creamy water-based product and doesn’t have to be activated with water so it’s super easy to apply! It also washes off quickly with soap and water! You can buy this from the Snazaroo website or on amazon! I used this product on Amy to make her all scary for The Last Page!
Mehron - Rigid Collodion

Rigid Collodion sounds scary and complicated, but this is one of my favourite products to use because it is so simple and effective! Basically, it’s a clear liquid that is applied to the skin and when it dries it puckers the skin leaving behind a scar effect! This can be used to create both fresh or older scars but you will have to play around with different colours to apply underneath the Rigid Collodion - it just depends on the result you want! The product comes with a small applicator brush and can be removed with Mehron’s Spirit Gum Remover!
GO HO - Stage Blood
